Description

Hikers can enjoy easy wildflower walks between Oak Point and Island campgrounds or along the South Road and near the Meadows Group Shelter Area. For a more strenuous two-mile natural surface trail through aspen forest and mountain shrub vegetation begin at the OHV parking lot. This trail doubles as a snowshoe trail in winter months.

Directions

Take exit 49 (if coming from Grand Junction) off I-70 to HWY 65, go approximately 18 miles on Hwy 65 and turn left onto HWY 330. Go 12 miles to the town of Collbran. Stay on 330 East past Collbran for about 12 miles to Mesa County Rd. 64 6/10ths Rd. and turn right at the "Vega State Park" sign. Go 5 miles to the Park Entrance Station, and go another half mile and turn right across Vega Dam to the Park Visitor Center. If coming from Denver, take Exit 62 off of I-70 turn left and follow 45 1/2 Road approximately 12 miles to Hwy 65 and turn left, proceed 1/4 mile and turn left onto Hwy 330 and follow this road as directed above to the park.
